We want to offer some support to families in our local Community who are living with a Cancer diagnosis

Event Details

Community Cancer Caregivers is a charity being established to serve the  communities in ireland providing practical support which includes care-giving relief to children of parents or guardians who have been diagnosed with cancer. Community Cancer Caregivers purpose is to provide relief of financial & social hardships for these families by providing up to 4hours, no-cost care-giving and support services, during periods of doctor appointments and/or convalescence. We have a vision of a community where a parent diagnosed with cancer no longer feels isolated during a cancer diagnosis, but are supported in their community, by the community. Community Cancer Caregivers is in direct response to the growing number of parents/guardians that are suddenly faced with a life changing diagnosis and having to source flexible ad-hoc support for caring for their child/children during treatment. The goal of Community Cancer Caregivers is to ensure that families receive safe, compassionate, and confidential assistance by an engaged community of trained caregivers. Allowing the patient enough time to take care of themselves and focus on their treatment. Our focus is on providing care for children aged 16 and under. Community Cancer Caregivers matches a compassionate adult caregiver with a referred child. Community Cancer Caregivers will setup five distinct services:  Care for a child in their own home with a parent/guardian present  Care for a child in their own home without a parent/guardian present  Care for a child in a caregivers home  Organised fun days out  Collection and transport to and from school/home

Our Inspiration: Community Cancer Caregivers was set up in memory of our bright, beautiful and best friend Suzanne Holligan. Suzanne was only 35 years old when she lost her two and half year battle with cancer which has left a huge hole that will never be filled. Suzanne was very active within her community and served in An Garda Síochána for the last ten years. Prior to this she, served in the Reserve Defence Forces. Suzanne leaves behind a heartbroken family, her beautiful 2 year old son Rían, her wonderful partner Dave and her amazing mum and dad Nuala and Tom. By setting up Community Cancer Caregivers we hope to provide a lasting legacy for our friend Suzanne's memory, we want to help provide care and support for families just like hers.

Community Cancer Caregivers runs 100% on donations and grants from the public. From organising a coffee morning, to a giant play date with the kids in AID of Community Cancer Caregivers every cent makes a huge difference. The cost of training each of our volunteers is approx €130 each and that’s without the equipment that’s needed to perform the role.
