It’s running season again and after last years success I’m going to try do a few runs for charities again and I mean try. 7 years ago I had a slight massive heart attack which would have killed most people and then this time five years ago I decided to have a look at the bright light again which led to a by-pass heart surgery with things being a little touch and go. On this day five years ago I was in the hospital been assisted with everything I do, walking was a struggle and physio telling me a plan of how over 8 weeks to try and get me to walk 30mins without a shortness of breath. Cardio Rehab Blanchardstown were a great help to my recovery and helping me get back my confidence. They are underfunded and under appreciated but are very good and do fantastic work. I have been made an unofficial ambassador to help motivate others going through this horrific illness with a little storyboard in the rehab centre .Yesterday I played a match, today I’m playing a match and Sunday I’m hoping to do the first 10km. I will admit some days are still very tough for me and a lot of daily aches and pains in my body but doing stuff like this is a motivation and joy to do if I can raise something regardless how small. Last year I raised €1500 thanks to great support of people, friends and family but this year I’m hoping to do even better. My second charity is Little Blue Heroes. If you don’t know who they are please follow the link and see their work for yourself. A charity I really admire and believe do fantastic work. Something I wish to get more involved in but hoping to raise some much needed for funds to do my part. This year I’m hoping to do 5 or 6 runs but despite looking like I’m doing great, unfortunately I’m carrying a lot of long term injuries but will give it a go and try my best. I already know I will not be doing the half marathon but aiming for the 10miler and the last run been the rockandroll (August )5km and 10km next day instead of the half marathon. Laura Nulty (My amazing Partner) will be my support again and hopefully joining me on some runs. Also joining me is Sean O’Callaghan. A man who has had his fair share of shit luck too and still on the road of recovering from cancer but is doing great and like me giving these runs a go. Seany will be doing it for the Beaumont hospital foundation, a charity that assisted him during his recovery and close to his heart. Vanessa Butler (Seans future wife ) who will be seany support and cheerleader for these runs. If a man with a dodgy heart and a man recovering from cancer are getting off their slightly very round arses to do this then others should too and if not they can support on our charity drives. I will link my fundraising page and like last year I will update my progress of how I am getting on , please support these great charities by giving a little. Last year I was delighted with what I raised and the great support I received for which I am thankful and grateful of. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully for your support/contribution for Cardiac Rehab Blanchardstown and Little blue heros .
