Tuam Cancer Care offers many supports to people with a devastating cancer diagnosis and their families. In addition to supports to the cancer sufferer, they run the CLIMB programme for children experiencing the impact of a parents cancer diagnosis. The Oesophageal Cancer Fund (OCF) is a wonderful organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the symtoms of this cancer and provides funding for the research of same. Earlier this year, my lifelong friend received the devastating news that her husband has oesophageal cancer. I told her I was taking part in the marathon and asked her to nominate her charity of choice. Without hesitation she chose Tuam Cancer Care due to the wonderful CLIMB programme that their children took part in. It was of great benefit to the family to which they are most grateful. Oesophageal cancer is one of the lesser known cancers and its symptoms are often ignored. The OCF endeavours to increase public knowledge of the symptoms of oesophageal cancer as an early visit to your GP is vital.

About the Cause
Tuam Cancer Care
Tuam Cancer Care is a voluntary organisation that offers psychological, emotional and practical support to people with a cancer diagnosis and their families.
It is hoped that the support provided will help the person with a cancer diagnosis to regain control of their lives and enhance their personal coping skills, during a difficult period of their lives. As cancer is very much a family affair, family members are also supported at this difficult time.
We are the national charity for Oesophageal Cancer in Ireland; bringing the good fight to a bad cancer. We are passionately committed to the eradication of this disease, and, until that happens, to helping those affected live full, long lives. We provide a three-pronged, desperately needed service.
We increase awareness of related symptoms to promote early diagnosis
We raise funds to support breakthrough research into its causes and potential cures
