Ok here goes.
I Started off well with an early swim to get the worst out of the way but it just hasn’t been as easy to dedicate time to training as I thought. It really is an event that needs time to train - three separate disciplines. We have been so lucky to have Alex Gray of P Square training us. His core strength training in his gym in Roundwood has been brilliant - I’d recommend it to anyone wanting to get their fitness levels up. I have done my best to meet these sessions and have really enjoyed them. John has been a constant support as ever, trying to get out with the group or anyone available at all sorts of times. Personally i am struggling with the swim and have avoided it as a result. I have gone out for a couple of cycles and again need to do more. You tend to gravitate towards the discipline you like more so running has been what I’ve focused on, which I’m sure is exactly what you shouldn’t do. I am on my first holiday away with the kids for a good number of years and am promising myself some warm weather training. I hope to swim and run daily in Spain and then concentrate on the cycle when I get back - that’s the plan. No doubt this plan will be redrafted several times over copious amounts of beer and tapas. The group itself is great. Constantly on WhatsApp offering encouragement and letting everyone know if anyone is out doing training to join in. To be fair there is no excuses, the support is immense. I need to up my game in the run in to D Day. I’d be delighted with a few sponsors on my page as it really will encourage me to keep going, ultimately this is about the foundation and the real support it provides to the children and their families that face much much bigger challenges than this. Thanks for reading, see you at the finish line.
I am a father of two (Hannah 10 and Louis 9) married to Eileen. I was born and breed in our beautiful town Greystones.
First in life is my family. I enjoy most of all walks around Greystones and further a field with my kids and just spending time watching them grow.
I have never participated in anything like a triathlon, not even a 5k race, so all this is going to be a challenge. At 44 I need to tackle my mid life spread and make an effort to keep healthy and enjoy the outdoors.
In order to get out and active more the KOG is the perfect way to get me going. Motivated to get through this challenge for personal satisfaction and encouraged all the way by the strength of the Gavin Glynn Foundation - sure what more do you need. See you at the Finnish line 🏊🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️
