Straight Ahead Ireland is a medical support group affiliated to the Children’s Medical Research Foundation (CMRF), which provides surgery, support and medical equipment for children with orthopaedic conditions such as Scoliosis, Limb Deformity and Injury. Straight Ahead is resourced through fundraising, donations and voluntary labour.
As a teenager, I was fortunate enough to have Scoliosis correction surgery at Crumlin Hospital after waiting well over a year for surgery. The waiting list situation was dire back when I had surgery in 2009 , and has gone unchanged or even worsened since then. It has been acknowledged by the government about the serious and ongoing violations of the rights of children and teenagers waiting for scoliosis treatment, yet nothing has been done about it.
This is why charities such as Straight Ahead Ireland are so important , as they remove the most urgent cases off the HSE waiting list, and allow all the team at the spinal disorders unit in Crumlin do their job.
No child should ever have to suffer physically and emotionally when treatment is available.
If you could take the time to make a donation , even only a couple of euros , it would be very much appreciated!
