My Milford Story.  My beautiful Mother, Geraldine, got sick last year.  After many months of not knowing what was wrong or what treatment would help, Mam got a diagnosis of inoperable lung cancer.  On 13th March 2017, Mam took a sudden and terrifying turn for the worse.  In medical terms "a pre-terminal event".  That day, Mam entered Milford.  The outlook was bleak.  Mam was sick, scared and suffering.  Our family were in shock, denial and afraid.  We entered Milford, knowing there wasn't going to be a happy ending.  However, in Milford we had little miracles that helped Mum and our devasted family prepare for the inevitable.   Mam found peace in Milford.  Mom found physical and spiritual comfort.  Milford gave extraordinary care for the patient but Milford also gave unbelievable care to Mams family for the 13 nights that we never left her side.  Every day with Mam in Milford was a bonus.  We had talk time, memories time, song time, spiritual time, tender loving care time,  time for family from far and wide and friends from across a lifetime.  And then we had final goodbye time.  On Mother’s day, 26th March, mam peacefully slipped away with her family by her side.

A month or so later, Milford invited our family back to a ceremony for the bereaved.  That ceremony lit a light for 26 people who had recently passed.  At the ceremony we saw the families of those we had passed in the corridors or sat with in the small hours in the coffee room while we held our vigils for our loved ones.  Every one of those families have their own Milford story as do thousands of other families. I’m running 26 miles for Milford.  In memory a truly loved and sorely missed mother and in support of the truly wonderful care service provided at Milford to those most in need.
