Located adjacent to Tyre, South Lebanon, Schools for Syria was founded in 2013 by Fr. William Stuart with the aim of providing schooling & basic education in a safe and colorful learning environment to refugee children of the Syrian Civil War.
Today, the school has grown to 200 students that are transported from their respective refugee camps in two school-sessions and fed lunch daily. Aged four to sixteen, children are grouped into four academic levels as well as five special needs assistance classes. Recreational activities such as sports and arts make for a well-rounded day. A school administrator follows up with parents of absent children who are typically caught between the difficult choice of receiving an education and working for money in the streets; offering different class hours often resolves the conflict of interest that no child should face.
