2019 Amanda Smith Cycle - in memory of past Zurich Colleagues

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
We are very proud to say that this year we celebrate the 10th year of the Amanda Smith Cycle - in memory of past Zurich Colleagues, and have raised well over €100,000 for various charities through the years.
The charities that we have chosen to support again this year are very worthy causes and we would very much appreciate your support in helping us to raise funds for these organisations.
Our team of cyclists & helpers will set out on Saturday 24th August 2019 from our office in Ballsbridge and make our way along the 140km route to our Wexford office. Please show us your support by giving whatever you can to our charity partners - The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Alone & Windmill Therapeutic Training Unit (Wexford). The more people that know about the below charities, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot to us - Team Zurich 2019
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland works across the country in the heart of local communities providing dementia specific services and supports and advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their careers.

Their vision is an Ireland where no one goes through dementia alone and where policies and services respond appropriately to the person with dementia and their careers, at the times they need support.

A national non-profit organisation, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is person centred, rights-based and grassroots led with the voice of the person with dementia and their carer at its core.

ALONE provides Housing with Support, Support Coordination, Befriending and Campaigns for Change to hundreds of older people every week, who are homeless, socially isolated, living in deprivation or in crisis.
·Support Coordination works with older people who are in crisis situations & need extra support to age at home.
·Befriending provides companionship to older people who are socially isolated through a weekly volunteer visit.
·Housing with Support provides homes to older people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, & need a level of support.
· Campaigns for Change are designed to raise awareness about the challenges & issues that vulnerable older people face as they age

Windmill Therapeutic Training Unit was set up in January 1988 to serve the local community in Wexford with a real emphasis on a new approach to the stereo-typed establishments in dealing with people with intellectual disabilities. The trainees range from the profound to the upper range of intellectual disabilities. The requirements of each trainee is so varied from one to one to group activities. Zurich has been involved with Windmill for several years and the impact on the trainees has been terrific. The visits to our Centre in Wexford and visits from our staff to their premises have built a bond that the trainees talk about and look forward to each time.

Well done to the 33 cyclists and the support team who took off from Ballsbridge last month on the 10th Amanda Smith Cycle - in memory of past Zurich Colleagues. We’re delighted to announce that again this year we’ve surpassed our fundraising target with just over €9k raised from sponsorship. We will apply to the Z Zurich Foundation for matching of this amount and we also received a further €3,100 from the Foundation from the recent International Charity Day competition on Workplace. This brings our total this year to over €21k to be split between our 3 charity partners! As always, it was great to have such a wonderful representation from across the Zurich Ireland offices as well friends of Zurich and of course members of Amanda’s family. Ballsbridge – Karol Lambert, Breda McGrath, Jack Mahon, Carol Mackin, Donal O’Driscoll, Ronan Kenny, Kevin Ward, David Aird, James Lee, Richard Jordan, Brian O’Neill, Jayne Reynolds, Derek Hughes Wexford – Eugene McLean, Olivia Maher ITS Dublin Hub – Bryan Harley, Mark Dunphy, Irene Reidy, Dermot Brosnan, James Chambers, Brian Moran ZIP HO –Robert Fitzgerald Friends of Zurich – Damien Fletcher, Shane Ahern, Gerry Maher, Donal Brennan, Peter Hobbs, Colin Vance, Louis de Courcy And Amanda’s family including her brothers Michael and Gary There was a sense of relief waking up that Saturday morning, to see the dry ground & the sun was popping its head out. After ensuring that everyone had their sun factor on, we were waved off from Ballsbridge at 8am by our CEO Anthony Brennan and representatives from two of our charity partners - The Alzheimer Society of Ireland & Alone. Plenty of water stops were had along the way, with battles to get hands on the communal bottles of sun factor. Only a couple of punctures on the day and thank goodness, no falls/injuries bar cycling aches & pains and the inevitable saddle sore! Having reconvened at the Riverbank Hotel a number of hours later, the gang headed across the bridge at Wexford town, continued up the Quays to cross the finish line at our Drinagh office…albeit a little later than planned. We were met there by our CCO Siobhan McDonnell along with our other charity partner Windmill Therapeutic Training Unit and more of Amanda’s family, led by her mother Breda. A big, big thank you to all who cycled on the day, the support team, Enterprise rent a car, those who waved us off or welcomed us at the finish line, the sports & social club and of course, all those that made donations. Roll on cycle number 11 in 2020. Karol Lambert & Breda McGrath
