Hugh Smith (34) was involved in a serious motorbike accident with his close friend Phil, whilst taking part in a motorbike sidecar racing event at Mondello Park, Co. Kildare. The accident occurred on the 6th April 2019.

Hughie suffered life changing injuries to his spine and is now paralysed from the waste down. He is currently in hospital recuperating and will be there for several months to come including rehabilitation.

Hughie is married with 3 children, Tiernan, Rose and the most recent addition, Ruairí, who has just arrived safely on the 6th May 2019. Hughie is a self-employed Tree surgeon, arborist.

Hugh’s wife Anna and the entire family have been devastated by this event.

We are reaching out to all our friends and family, colleagues and companies and hoping that you can assist in raising some funds to help Hughie & Anna and the children. The event was a motor racing event and therefore no insurance cover is applicable. Any insurance cover is void and therefore they are left without any funds or means of living.

·       There is no Pay out from any insurance company

·       No income protection

·       No mortgage protection

·       No medical insurance

·       No Insurance cover from the Racing Track

Hughie’s family and friends at JAE Engineering are currently planning to hike the Wicklow way circa 80km in one go, walking through the night in the hope that we can raise some funds for Hughie and his family. The funds will be used to assist them in transitioning to their new life with so many challenges and difficulties. The funds in total will be used to move the family to a more accessible home, cost of medical expenses, wheelchairs, car etc. The list is endless.

We have set a target of €150,000.00 – a huge sum.

We are hoping that you can sponsor our team to walk the 80km. We will be a team of 6-8 people and the objective is that a minimum of 2 people will complete the 2 day – all night walk.

We have added a link below and hope that you can assist. We have started the fund with a €50,000.00 donation to get us on the move.

Please feel free to contact us and we look forward to catching up soon.

Thank you to all in advance of any donation, any amount.
