Thank you for visiting!

  • What is PumpPal?
PumpPal is an initiative I am piloting  to support mums in Irish children's hospitals to provide breastmilk for their babies.
The 6 month pilot began  in June 2018 in Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.

  • Why is it called PumpPal?
In children's hospitals, the majority of babies cannot physically breastfeed as they are too unwell. If the mum wishes to provide breast milk for her baby, a breastpump is usually required. It is extremely challenging to learn how to express breast milk  while also caring for a sick child.
In addition to this, Dublin's children's hospitals care for the most unwell babies from all over Ireland so many of the parents do not have family or a support network nearby. The title of the initiative combines 'Pump' with 'Pal' to focus on the motivation behind it: to provide support to mums.

  • How will your donation be spent?
Your donation will assist me to fund the 6 month pilot in Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.  100 PumpPal Support Kits have been delivered to begin the pilot and I am working on fundraising and donations of items to fill the next 100 kits.
Your donation will be spent on items to fill the kits as pictured in the gallery above:

  • Reusable bag
  • Tupperware container
  • Mug, spoon and porridge sachets
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Travel size toiletries, lip balm, eye mask, ear plugs
  • Photo keyring & small book to encourage bonding with baby
  • Breast pump cleaning brush & fairy liquid
  • Microwaveable sterilising bag
  • Advice leaflet on expressing breastmilk
A donation of €25 will provide an entire support kit for a mum and baby.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support.

Thanks to pump pal I was able to express for my 10 day old little boy back in August when he was unwell in the CHC ward in Crumlin

Such a beautiful cause, wish this support was available when my baba was in nicu 3 years ago

Great initiative! Visited a friend in Crumlin whose little boy was in for heart surgery... she could have done with one of these little really helps when you're breast feeding! Hope the pilot goes well. I'll post it to my local breastfeeding group....

What a great idea! This would have been useful during my emergency admissions to CHC while my son was awaiting surgery for VSD repair. Well done!
