ROB Talbot & CATHAL Mahon REPRESENT IRELAND in Sea Scout Sailing, Koch Cup, U.S.A.

Galway Venture Sea Scouts, Rob and Cathal will compete for Ireland at a major international sea scout regatta, the Koch Cup, to be held on July 8th-13th 2018 in Galveston, Texas.

It's only the third time Ireland has qualified for this event which is held every two years in different venues across America.

Both lads have been sailing for 6/7 years ( approx the last 4 years competitively) at various regional events around Ireland and have posted some impressive wins in Silver fleet ,steadily climbing the ranks in Gold fleet.

They've worked hard with their coach Ciaran Jordon ,showing dedication and determination in training, maintaining focus on the goals they've set for themselves. They've trained under some brilliant instructors and coaches in Galway sailing clubs, Cumann Seoilteoreacht an Spideal (Spiddal), Galway Bay Sailing Club, Galway City Sailing Club and at camps in Howth, Dún Laoghaire and Schull.
They're doing their bit on the water and as Scouting is completely voluntary Rob and Cathal have to self fund to the tune of e3,500.

Your donation ,however small (or big) will help make this happen and will be greatly appreciated.
If you know of any businesses or individual that would be willing to help with sponsorship please contact Alan Delahunty....087 230 9037 or [email protected]

This Friday.. Historic Launch of The Lovely Anne, 137 yr old Galway Hooker in the Claddagh
(All our Scouters, Youths, Parents, Associates, & Supports should have received an email invite, remember to RSVP, if not received.. please PM)
.
Organised by Galway Hooker 2020, Bádóirí an Cladaig and the wider Claddagh community, this group of sailors, fishers & boat-builders would be delighted if you could join us to celebrate this historic occasion.
The Lovely Anne:
This 137-year-old workboat was built in 1882 by Galway boat-wright, Patrick Brannelly (famous for building An Tónaí & the Morning Star).
She has a fascinating story.
After being part of Galway’s hooker fleet in the early 1900s she was sold over 46 years ago in Spiddal to Jim Parkinson, who fished her for many years. Later he relocated to Killybegs, Co. Donegal and the boat has been in his possession ever since.
Last year (2018) Ross Forde (Brannelly's Great-Great Grandson) brought the boat back to Galway, and on Friday she will officially join the rest of Galway’s famous hooker fleet.
