Nicola 2 Nepal - volunteering with The Umbrella Foundation

Welcome to my fundraising page - Nicola 2 Nepal.

I will be venturing to Nepal for two months voluntary work from late January until late March.  I came across The Umbrella Foundation at Dublin Castle in November of 2017 at the Volunteer Fair.
I felt a great connection to their cause and significant work with vulnerable children. I have always dreamed of working in a voluntary capacity and this year I am following my heart and vision to contribute to humanity.

I would greatly appreciate any contributions :) This funding raised will assist for my placement, which spreads awareness about the charity, covers the cost of my stay, and acts as a valuable contribution to the continuity of their work. This organisation highlights the plight of young children who are exploited by illegal traffickers and illegal orphanages. (Please find more details on the Umbrella Foundation below).

Namaste & Thank You

The Umbrella Foundation
The Umbrella Foundation is a non-profit NGO and registered charity in Ireland, Holland, Hong Kong, UK, USA and Australia working to alleviate the impact of trafficking, poverty and war on children and their families in Nepal.

Established in 2005 in response to the growing number of illegal ‘orphanages’ neglecting children’s most basic rights – food, education, safe shelter, healthcare and love – we are a family-first, children’s charity which has rescued more than 405 vulnerable children with the help of the Child Welfare Board, and reintegrated many back with their families and rural communities.

Currently, we are supporting 57 children and youth in our reintegration program, 55 Youth in our NSEP program & and 11 children living in our childcare homes.

The Umbrella Foundation works ethically:
The Umbrella Foundation is firmly against ‘voluntourism’, the industry of fabricating opportunities to meet increasing demands of Western volunteers. We are committed to ethical and responsible practices and we prioritise the employment of Nepali staff facilitated by a small international support base, thereby providing opportunities for local skill development, personal empowerment and sustainable job creation.
