Our Story
We've been working hard to develop Atlantic Air Adventures in Shannon for the last 10 years now. We like to think that we celebrate aviation in all its forms and that we help to inspire the next generation of aviators helping them on their aviation journey. We operate as a social enterprise, returning all the income generated to support the facility, especially the Museum. For the last 7 years we have been part funded for capital projects by Clare Local Development Company through Leader grants, and we have matched this with bank loans so far. Now it's time to take the project on to the next level. But this time we need your help to do it.
We have a great museum collection, but only part of the collection is on display. Lots of our exhibits have unique stories to tell! But sadly, it’s the greatest story never told, because we lack covered space for restoration and display, and limited resources prevent any further Museum development. We really want to bring these treasures and their great stories to life. We want to protect these pieces of aviation history, and save some of them from the weather. We want to enrich our visitors experience with more to see, learn and do.
Our Plan
So . . . our plan is toinstall 6 steel units ‘mini hangars’, giving us an additional 3,500 sq ft of new display area to organise and stage the collection, together with models, memorabilia and the exhibit story. One of these will be a workshop for our De Havilland Venom aircraft in urgent need of restoration, another will be a mini cinema, complete with passenger aircraft seats. We have a historic BAC 1-11 flight simulator for reassembly, a Boeing 707 cockpit, a full set of MD-80 landing gear and lots more waiting in storage.
So, we’re reaching out to you, our fellow aviators, our clients, students, supporters and visitors, to anyone who has enjoyed their visit to us, anyone we have inspired or somehow helped on their journey, to anyone who thinks we do good work. Be part of our crowd funding campaign, and help us to raise the€45,000we need to do this work. Together we can make sure that the museum is sustainable and protected for the future.
