Online Fundraising for Clubs, Schools and Causes

Tiernan Serve Africa Trip 2018

I will be one of 16 travelling from my school Colaiste Cois Life http://colaistecoislife.ie/ to volunteer in Rustenburg, South Africa for 2 weeks in April 2018, as part of a school immersion programme in conjunction with http://www.serve.ie/

Each participant is tasked with fundraising the money to cover their own trip costs.

I will be fasting for 24 hours on Sunday 25th Feb 2018 in order to fundraise towards this trip, and I would greatly appreciate your support.

If you know me (and my love of food), you will realise this will be a tough challenge J

Note: If you would like to support me, but online donation is inconvenient, feel free to e-mail me a pledge @ [email protected], or contact me as I will also have physical sponsorship forms.

Serve Trip Details:

SERVE is a development and volunteering organisation committed to tackling poverty in the majority world. We strive to do this by working in solidarity, service and partnership with marginalised and oppressed communities, empowering them to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice.

South Africa is a country with a huge percentage of the population living below the poverty line.  The country is also ravaged with the HIV/AIDS pandemic.  The SERVE project to South Africa is in partnership with the Tsholofelo Community in Rustenburg.  The Tsholofelo Community work with and for the development of the poor and marginalised people living in squatter camps and informal settlements in the Rustenburg area.  One of the areas in which which Tsholofelo is active is Freedom Park, which has an estimated 3,000 shacks and an estimated population of 15,000 providing primary health care services, a feeding programme, education, skills training and income generation projects in an area where no government services or support is present.

We will support the Tsholofelo project in Rustenburg working with on-going squatter camp community development projects, the orphan and vulnerable children’s programme and the education and nutrition programmes, while also working alongside and learning from local youth volunteer groups.
