Courtmacsherry Rowing Club Building Project

Courtmacsherry Rowing Club Boathouse building project - Be a part of it - Help make it happen.

The Courtmacsherry Rowing Club boathouse building project is about creating an amenity that will serve the community for generations to come.  An amenity that will allow young and old, male and female, lead a healthy lifestyle through the sport of Coastal and Offshore Rowing.

We have been working towards the establishment of permanent land based facilities for many years.  Thanks to community support down through the years significant investment has been made in bringing the Courtmacsherry Rowing Club Boathouse project through the initial phases of feasibility, design and planning and we are delighted that full planning permission was granted in June 2017.

We need your help to raise the Euro 400,000 needed to complete this once in a generation project.  All potential sources of funding are being sought out by the fundraising committee including donations, fundraising events, corporate support and grant aid.  For projects like this in a rural coastal area, widespread community support from near and far is vital in ensuring its success.  Our ask of you is two fold:
1. Make a donation - what ever you can afford
2. Spread the word and ask your family, friends and your wider circle of associates to make a donation.

The establishment of a clubhouse at Courtmacsherry is the next step in the evolution of Courtmacsherry Rowing Club and we need your help to make it happen.  Please support this once in a generation project in any way you can.

Thank you for your support.

Club History:
Courtmacsherry Rowing Club is a voluntary community based organization dedicated to the provision and development of rowing activities in the Courtmacsherry area.  Founded in 1991 the club is a member of the South West Coast Yawl Rowing Association and is affiliated with Rowing Ireland Coastal and Offshore divisions.

The establishment of the rowing club in 1991 was a natural development given the strong history of rowing in Courtmacsherry with racing dating back as far as the 1800’s.  Rowing races are the highlight of the annual regatta and the perpetual memorial cups which bear the names of prominent local mariners are a testimony to this strong legacy.

Courtmacsherry Rowing Club has an active membership base of over one hundred people per annum starting at ten years of age and upward catering for both male and female participants.  As well as regular membership the club is also utilised by visitors to the Courtmacsherry area who are encouraged to participate and can learn to row during their stay in the village.

Through our eleven boats the club offers both social and competitive rowing programs allowing everybody to take part at a level that best suits them.  The Club has hosted a number of regional and national events over the years including West Cork Championship, Cork County and the All Ireland Coastal Rowing Champiionship fixed seat regattas.  In 2016 the club hosted the Irish Offshore Championships for sliding seat offshore boats.

Coastal and Offshore rowing is an inclusive sport for the entire family with race categories starting at Under 12 and going right through the age groups as far as masters (over 55’s).  Through out the summer season regattas are held all around the coast using traditional boats.  These regatta’s are the highlight of many summertime festivals and play an important role in the fabric of life in coastal communities as well as being a fantastic spectacle for the many tourists that happen upon them
