Irish Wheelchair Rugby

Irish Wheelchair Rugby (IWR) is responsible for the development, promotion, and regulation of Wheelchair Rugby in Ireland. Wheelchair Rugby was introduced to Ireland back in 1997, thanks mainly to the efforts of Garrett Culliton. Garrett comes from a strong rugby background and after seeing the game being played while he was in the United States, was adamant that Ireland would have their own Wheelchair Rugby Team. The Gaelic Warriors, Ireland's first Wheelchair Rugby Team, was the outcome of Garrett's efforts. Today in Ireland we currently have four active clubs throughout the country and strive to build the sport even more.

where your money goes

Donating Irish Wheelchair Rugby is easy and we guarantee that 100% of sponsorship goes towards developing the sport of Wheelchair Rugby in Ireland. Wheelchair Rugby is an expensive sport! We travel far and wide to play our game and, with fuel, airfare, hotel, and food, traveling isnt cheap! With your helpful support, you can help make playing our sport just a little easier. "Irish Wheelchair Rugby are very grateful for all the donations and support it receives. All supporters are kept informed of how their contributions assist us in achieving our goals."

history

Wheelchair Rugby was introduced to Ireland back in 1997 thanks mainly to the efforts of Garrett Culliton. Garrett comes from a strong rugby background and after seeing the game being played while he was in the United States, was adamant that Ireland would have their own Wheelchair Rugby team. So he rang around all the quads he could think of and convinced them that this was the sport for them. Picture it! A group of people in a sports hall, trying to get to grips with a new sport and everyone is sitting in their own ordinary, everyday chairs. We didn't have a proper rugby chair between us.
