Online Fundraising for Clubs, Schools and Causes

Ennis Sub Aqua Club

On December 26th, Ennis Sub Aqua Club, a not-for-profit Scuba Diving Club, based in the Mid West of Ireland, will be holding their 37th Annual Fin Swim. The Swim - 2 Miles down the (cold & dark) River Fergus, is used to raise funds for the club, who regularly volunteer their time, skills and experience in searching local waterways, lakes, coastline etc for missing persons. The funds raised facilitate the specific training required to conduct underwater search operations, maintain the special equipment required and allow members to keep their skills fresh to ensure their own safety in the water.

Unfortunately 2016 has been a very busy year for us, and we do need to train additional divers constantly to continue to provide this service.

By purchasing a sponsorship line, your funding goes directly to the club to facilitate this on-going work. Your name will be added to a sponsorship card (with a chance to win a weekend stay in Dublin). The draw will be held in March and the winner notified shortly afterwards.

For more details on the club, and to view photos of the swim after the event, please visit our Facebook page on www.facebook.com/ennissubaqua

Thank you for your sponsorship and good luck in the draw.

Every year, divers from Ennis Sub Aqua Club brave the cold, often freezing weather, to take part in a swim on St. Stephen's Day, December 26th. The Swim - 2 Miles down the (cold & dark) River Fergus, is used to raise funds for the club, who regularly volunteer their time, skills and experience in searching local waterways, lakes, coastline etc for missing persons. We can be seen swimming through the heart of Ennis Town, finally emerging at Steele's Rock near the Fairgreen.
While Ennis Sub Aqua Club divers take part in this festive event every year, its worth remembering that we have the training and equipment that allows us to do this safely. Over the years, we have unfortunately had too many instances where people, through excess drinking, take foolish risks and end up in the water. With the high level of very cold water this time of year, this usually only has one outcome - where our divers again must go into the water to search for and recover these unfortunate folks.
This Christmas season, please take extra care, and ensure that if you and your friends have a few drinks, stay away from climbing or walking along the river walls (slippy when wet and cold) and the sides of bridges.
Ennis Sub Aqua Club hold this Fin Swim annual to fund raise for our voluntary Search/Rescue and Recovery efforts. With insurance guidelines in place, S&R divers must continually retake very specific training and practise sessions, which are expensive on the volunteer.
If you would like to help, you can contact any member of the club to contribute sponsorship, or you can also sponsor us via the magic of iFundraise https://www.ifundraise.ie/esac/2819/donate

Have a happy, and safe Christmas everyone, and if you're in town on St. Stephen's day, do drop by the river and give us a wave. We'll be passing through town passing the Bishop's from about 3PM.
